Why Does the Route 47 Missouri River Bridge Need Improvements?
The 73-year-old bridge needs maintenance repairs due to its age. The bridge is located near Washington on Route 47 over the Missouri River between Franklin County and Warren County.
What Improvements on the Route 47 Bridge Are Being Proposed?
MoDOT will make many repairs to the bridge superstructure, including, replacing deck joints, repair and replace various members of the steel truss system and paint the lower portion of the structure.
How Will Traffic Be Impacted While Construction Is Under Way?
For much of the 2009 construction season, traffic will be reduced to one lane on the bridge, with temporary traffic signals to facilitate two-way traffic. Emergency services will be able to pre-empt the signals for emergency response purposes.
There will be two weekends when it will be necessary to close the entire bridge to traffic while the contractor replaces the deck joints. In these instances, the bridge will be closed from 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening until 5 a.m. on Monday morning. Alternate Routes would be to cross the Missouri River at Hermann or Chesterfield. A public awareness campaign will notify the public of when these weekend closures are scheduled to occur.

The estimated project cost to repair the Route 47 Missouri River Bridge is $5.4 million.
When Will Construction Begin And End?
Construction for the Route 47 Missouri River Bridge rehabilitation project will begin in March 2009 and is expected to be complete in December 2009.
