Why did the I-44 and Route 185 Interchange Need Improvement?
The existing I-44 and Route 185 interchange experienced a high level of congestion and needed to be expanded to meet the current traffic demands.
What Improvements were made?
MoDOT widened the bridge at Route 185 south interchange (Exit 226) in Sullivan to five lanes. Also as part of a cost-share project with the Village of Oak Grove, Route 185 was widened from the bridge to Springfield Rd. The South Outer Road was also relocated opposite of Eagle Drive and a signal was installed.
The project was awarded to L. Krupp Construction for approximately $3.6 million, but came in under budget.
How was traffic impacted?
Temporary ramp and lane closures were required to construct this project.
When did construction begin and end?
Construction began in mid-December 2010 and was completed the first week of December 2011.
