The widening to four lanes of U.S. 65 south of Hollister, starting in 2006, will conclude a long but steady effort to add lanes along the increasingly busy corridor between Springfield and the Missouri-Arkansas line.
U.S. 65 is now four lane through Hollister, with an interchange and overpass. This $19 million project was made possible through a partnership involving MoDOT, Hollister and Taney County.
Work began in mid-2005 on a $10-million project to four-lane U.S. 65 between Branson and Hollister. A second bridge carrying the two new lanes was completed over Lake Taneycomo in 2006.
A third project nearing completion has four-laned the remaining 8 miles of U.S. 65 between Hollister and the Missouri-Arkansas state line. The estimated cost is $27.2 million.
Amendment 3 funds accelerated two of these three projects. Amendment 3 also enabled MoDOT to add the Hollister-to-Arkansas project to its 5-Year Construction Plan. The project was voted the highest-priority rural highway need in Missouri by a statewide Major Projects Task Force of city, county and state transportation officials meeting in April 2005.
Traffic Impacts:
• Occasional lane closings may be necessary on U.S. 65 at times
