The four-laning of U.S. 65 between Springfield and a little south of Buffalo has become a high priority for the Springfield region and has been added to MoDOT's construction timetable. Work began in 2007.
The project was funded after being rated near the top of a list of significant needs around the state. The ratings were done by a statewide Major Projects Task Force made up of city and county leaders, including several from southwest Missouri, and MoDOT planners.
The passage of Amendment 3 in 2004, shifting transportation money back to MoDOT, allowed the U.S. 65 project to be added to MoDOT’s 5-year construction plan.
The first phase of the project started in 2007 and covers 9.5 miles between Springfield and Fair Grove.
The second phase started in early 2008 and extends 13.3 miles between Fair Grove and a point near Dallas County Route EE.
Estimated cost: $65 million.
Expected Traffic Impacts:
Traffic slowdowns possible during blasting operations and when equipment enters and leaves work aras. It also is possible some side roads may be closed for periods of time to allow the new roads to be connected to the new lanes of Route 65.
