Project Location
- Route 36 between Macon and Shelbina
- Part of a larger project to upgrade Route 36 to four lanes between Macon and Hannibal
- Partially funded through a half-cent local sales tax in Macon, Shelby, Monroe and Marion Counties
Project Description
- Upgrade Route 36 to four-lane expressway by adding a median and two additional lanes to the existing roadway
- Access to the highway will continue to be through at-grade intersections
- Private and commercial entrances will be provided at state routes and county roads
- The bridge on Route 151 over Route 36 will be replaced during construction of the project
Traffic During Construction
- Will be maintained on existing Route 36
- Temporary side road closures will be required occasionally
- Route 151 will be detoured while the new bridge is built
- MoDOT will make every effort to minimize inconvenience to drivers
Project Costs and Schedule
- Programmed for fiscal year 2008 at a cost of $50,000,000
- Right-of-way negotiations will begin in 2006
- Construction will be completed no later than December 31, 2010
