It began with an idea and a meeting and has grown to a partnership with a mission.  The mission is to provide training to help individuals find jobs in the transportation industry. A Call to Oneness and MoDOT are offering three free CDL exam workshops at area churches the first week of March.

The workshops will offer training on what is required to pass the written test for the Commercial Driving License (CDL). This is the first step in getting one of the thousands of jobs that require a CDL.  Employers that require this type of license include construction, departments of transportation, delivery services, bus drivers, public works, trash hauling, truck driver, cities, counties, and many others.

Individuals interested in attending this class have three choices:

·        On Sunday, March 8, the class will be offered from 4 to 6 p.m. at Concord Fortress Church, 11040 W Longview Parkway in Kansas City MO. Call to make reservations at 816-761-1909.

·        On Tuesday, March 10, the class will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at United Believers Community Church, 7546 Troost Avenue, Kansas City MO. Call to make reservations at 816-361-9996.

·        On Saturday, March 14, the class will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2801 Swope Parkway, Kansas City MO.  Call 816-924-1818 for reservations.

"At MoDOT we want to attract the best employees. And to work in many of our jobs you must have a high school diploma and pass the written CDL test. So we began with the idea of helping individuals get the training to take the written exam, but it has grown beyond that.  This partnership is about training individuals for a wide variety of transportation careers.  It's about reaching out and being an engaged partner in our community," said Belinda Fite, human resources manager.

            While MoDOT is providing the training and the trainers, they know they cannot employ everyone who attends. However, the jobs that open up when a person has a CDL are vast, according to Fite.  This effort will help them have a better chance at those jobs.
