Online Meeting: Safe & Sound in Lafayette County

Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program will repair or replace 9 bridges in Lafayette County and one in Johnson County in 2010.

In Lafayette, bridges include:

  • Route 224 over Little Sni-A-Bar Creek
  • Route E over Garrison Creek
  • Route 13 over Davis Creek
  • Route 224 over Dry Run Creek
  • Route O over the Kansas City Southern Railroad
  • Route F over Little Tabo Creek
  • Route D over Sni-A-Bar Creek
  • Route 224 over Graham Branch
  • Route 23 over Crow Creek

The Johnson County replacement this year will be Route CC over Mulkey Creek.

These bridges will be closed to through traffic for up to 60 days sometime this year to allow the contractor to complete work quickly. The closures will detour traffic to nearby routes, affecting school bus, emergency service and postal routes.

These bridges are among 22 in Lafayette and 17 in Johnson County that will be repaired or replaced in the next three years as part of the Safe & Sound program.  Maps showing all Safe & Sound bridges in both Lafayette and Johnson counties will be on display at the community briefing. All bridges listed in the program will be improved in the next five years.

By 2013, Safe & Sound will improve 800 of the worst bridges across the state through an innovative partnership with KTU Constructors.  When you see a Safe & Sound sign on a bridge or marked on a map, anticipate that it will close during construction.

This online meeting details the two closures that will occur the soonest. Please review the details and send us your comments.
