Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program will repair or replace 5 bridges in Jackson County in 2010.

In Jackson, bridges include:

• Route W Bridges map

  Status: Under construction

  Daily traffic volume: 9334

• US 24 at Wahoo Bridge

  Construction Start: July 2010

  Days closed: 56

  Daily traffic volume:5,320
• US 24 at Rock Creek

  Construction Start: Fall 2010

  Daily traffic volume: 19,628

• Small Creek over I-70 East

  Construction Start: Fall 2010

  Daily traffic volume: 1402

These bridges will be closed to through traffic for up to 60 days sometime this year to allow the contractor to complete work quickly. The closures will detour traffic to nearby routes, affecting school bus, emergency service and postal routes.

Maps showing all Safe & Sound bridges in Jackson County will be on display at the community briefing.

By 2013, Safe & Sound will improve 800 of the worst bridges across the state through an innovative partnership with KTU Constructors.  When you see a Safe & Sound sign on a bridge or marked on a map, anticipate that it will close during construction.
