Every road starts with an idea.
Ideas are generated and prioritized by public comment and partnerships with planning partners.
Then we assess the impact. For a widening or new roadway we may need to do an Environmental Impact Study, which can take three to five years.
Again we come back to the public for possible solutions to the problem.
Road design engineers work to create the most practical solution -- or practical design. This saves taxpayers money and allows MoDOT to complete more projects.
We often bring the design solutions to the community and begin communicating the solution before construction contracts are awarded.
At this point MoDOT can only make limited changes to the project. Most people become aware of the project at this or the next stage when the contract is awarded.
Then construction begins. And through the natural course of work, the new road opens.
There are many opportunities along the way for you to add your voice to this process. Your Regional Planning Group (RPG) and elected officials offer ideas and suggestions on an ongoing basis.
We seek your input at each of these steps in our process and want your voice added to the mix. |
