Looking north, the new school road bridge is taking shape. U.S. Route 54 is also visible at the top of the photo.
This view of Route 5, looking north from Lake Road 5-89, shows the "rock cap" in place for the new highway. A rock cap is the top two feet of material laid before asphalt or concrete is placed on the new road. The rock cap is graded to the final elevation of the road and provides a stable base for the surface. It also allows water to drain from under the road without compromising the pavement or ground around the highway.
