In the past four years, MoDOT has used more than 83,000 car tires – the amount from 20,750 cars - in its construction projects and enough recycled shingles to roof 305 houses. Ice Damages Power Lines Near Highways

Recent ice storms snapped many power lines near state highways, and MoDOT worked around the clock to close roads and detour traffic while utility companies made repairs. During winter weather, for the latest updates on state highway closings due to downed power lines, check MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at modot.org.

Traffic Signals Without Power Mean Four-way Stops 

MoDOT is advising motorists to treat any traffic signal that is dark and without power as a four-way stop. Due to widespread power outages caused by winter storms, a large number of traffic signals did not have power and could have presented a hazardous situation if motorists approaching a wet or icy intersection did not realize they needed to stop.
